Generic November Writing Project

Instead of trying to write an entire book in a month, I’m going to aim for writing at least 500 words a day and not necessarily on a single project. I have a number of good starts to books, and a few story ideas that could use a boost. Writing just hasn’t been a priority for me lately. So I hope November will change that.

More to come!

November 1: Added a page to one of my two book-length projects. This one is about an alternate history moon colony. The two main characters start out as teens and it will follow them as they get older but I am struggling a bit early on to avoid it sounding like YA at the start.

Words: 614

November 2: Another page on the same project. Feeling inspired!

Also did a little editing on an older project that a friend has expressed interest in reading. Does editing mean I have to subtract words from my total?

Words: 788

November 3-7: Continuing to add to my alt history book project, but intermittently. One day I added over 1300 words, the following day I added nearly 400 more, but then for a few days I didn’t even open the document.

Words: 1,688/4 = 422 per day

November 8-14: I worked on several different projects this week. Work on my alt history book-length project stalled because it occurred to me that I was being repetitive in my second chapter by going over the same period of time (though from an alternate POV). While I figure out what to do with that, I have pivoted to working on a couple of other projects, including my book length cozy mystery and a short story about a woman stranded on a distant planet.

Words: 3,070/6= 511 per day avg. (1543 words of cozy mystery; 986 words of stranded short story; 541 words for a timed free write)

November 15-19: I went to two (2) “Friendsgivings” and didn’t write a word.

November 20-27: I got a full MS request for one of my projects which is brilliant, but I immediately devolved into panic, beat it into shape by editing out a lot of superfluous words, and added in a few hopefully better words. Thus, for this week my net word count feels relatively uncountable, but let’s say -1,899.

November 28: Had an idea for a time traveling short story where the MC has to go back to undo the intervention that they had just made. I banged out a first draft at 2,034 words. Huzzah!
